What is the biggest mistake women make when negotiating?


Next to not asking for a raise or a higher fee, women (and men too!) often fail to be curious and ask open-ended questions during a negotiation. This can be caused by nerves and/or overly focusing on one’s own needs without considering what the other person or party’s interests are.

To rectify this, write down a list of questions before the negotiation conversation begins. Take some time to consider what is important to your negotiation partner. This dialogue helps build rapport and also provides you with valuable data.

Here are some curious questions to consider:
– What are your goals for your business or the team going forward?
– How do you see my role in achieving these objectives?
– What would make this negotiation a success for you?
