I was raised by a single mother and the financial issues women face have always been on the forefront of my mind. Despite having financial hardships unique to their gender, the industry has been set up more specifically for men and has catered to that crowd for a very long time. Despite this women often make great investors because they are more likely to see the big picture when it comes to their financial health. I find that women are more likely to plan, take their mental health into account, and understand that it's not about the investments as much as it is the people these investments are serving. All of these things are pivotal to a healthy relationship with money.
When I cofounded NewMaker our mission was to create a safe space for women to explore their financial health and plan their futures, with the hope that we can reach people who the industry consistently alienates. I believe better financial health for women will change lives, change families, and change minds.
I am cofounder of NewMaker Financial, a firm dedicated to planning for people in transition. Our approach is one of helping you face your anxieties around money, build your confidence, and help you make the best educated financial decisions you can during your life transition.
I have over a decade in the industry, hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation, am a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™, and also have taken courses on the psychology of financial planning. I have a diverse track record, having worked for a large brokerage house, a small investment advisory firm, and also spent two years contracted with the Colorado National Guard to provide coaching and planning advice to soldiers. I am passionate about financial planning as well as investment management, which is a nice way to say I am a personal finance nerd.
I come from a working class background, was the first in my family to go to college, and understand the difficulties most American’s have with finance first hand. I believe most firms have problems with making their clients feel shame, whether they intend to or not, and I work hard to make sure my clients don’t feel shame, guilt, or any of the many emotions we are trained to feel. You are welcome, and I’m happy you’re here.
THREE THINGS ABOUT ME
I am an avid writer and reader.
I love cats and have six of them. This was not intentional, my wife and I just Brady Bunched our households and that's what we ended up with. I met my wife at a cat shelter, by the way.
I love fountain pens, there's something about the scratchy sounds and ink colors that relaxes me.
